The entrance of His
Beatitude Michel Sabbah Latin Patriarch to
Bethlehem
On December 24, 2006 at 12:30 am His
Beatitude Mons. Michel Sabbah, Latin Patriarch
of Jerusalem, left the Patriarchate and went to
Bethlehem along with his religious court and
some of the Jerusalem parish notables.
Around 12:45 pm His Beatitude arrived
at Mar Elias near Bethlehem. There, the Mayor of Beit Jala, the City Council, and the Father Responsible of the Status Quo in
Bethlehem met him. All together left Mar
Elias and went to Bethlehem.
Around 1:20 pm the group arrived at
Rachel’s Tomb. There, the Patriarch was welcomed
by Father Amjad Sabbara the Parish Priest of Bethlehem, the deputy of
the Mayor of Bethlehem, the city council, the
Mayor and City Council of Beit Sahour, Heads and
members of the different institutions in the
area and some of the parish members. The whole
procession heads towards the Manger Square,
passing through Star Street. Scout Troops from
all over the country precede the procession.
Around 2:15 pm the procession
reached Manger Square. His Beatitude the
Patriarch, was met and welcomed by the Mayor of
Bethlehem, the Governor, the Head of the Police
Department, and a number of priests, sisters,
Heads of the Christians Communities, members of
the Charitable societies, and members of the
parish. The whole procession entered solemnly
into the Basilica of the Nativity through the
main small door and from there continued to the
church of St. Catherine through the portico
(colonnade) of St. Jerome.
